Alfred Jakob was the son of Angela and Theodor Rappeport and the younger brother of Angelika (born July 31, 1920). His father, born on October 28, 1876, in Łódź, Poland, was of Jewish faith. He had already passed away on April 29, 1923, in Vienna. His mother, born on January 15, 1893, in Gubschitz/Kubšice, Moravia, moved with her two children to the apartment at Stroheckgasse 12/1/11 (9th District of Vienna) after her husband's death. Presumably in connection with her marriage, she converted from Roman Catholicism to the Mosaic faith. However, in 1925 she returned to Catholicism.

In the eyes of the National Socialists, Alfred Jakob was considered a 'Mischling' due to his Jewish ancestry, even though he himself, as well as his mother, belonged to the Catholic Church. Furthermore, as the son of a father born in Poland, he did not possess Austrian citizenship before the 'Anschluss' of Austria – and thus did not receive German citizenship after the 'Anschluss'. For these reasons, it is evident that he was denied the opportunity to study at the University for World Trade during the Nazi period. During the war, he was drafted into the Wehrmacht. After the war, he was credited with three semesters by the 'University for World Trade' as 'reparations'. Although he submitted a thesis graded 'very good' after only three semesters, he did not complete the diploma course.

Alfred Jakob Rappeport was granted Austrian citizenship only after World War II; the corresponding certificate from the Landeshauptmannschaft Vienna is dated January 21, 1947. After the war, he married Josefine Emilie, who was born in February 1927 in Schwechat under her maiden name Langfellner. From this marriage, Werner Ralf Erich was born (on May 7, 1954, in Vienna); the child died at not even one and a half years old.

Alfred Jakob Rappeport was buried on July 29, 1994, at the Vienna Central Cemetery. He rests there together with his son and his wife, who died in February 2005 at the age of 77.
