Laja Bajla was the daughter of Elimelech Sznycer (merchant). Following two semesters at the Handelshochschule Warschau, she was enrolled for two more semesters at the University for World Trade during the winter semester 1937/38 and summer semester 1938. After taking examinations here between December 1937 and February 1938, she, as a Jew, was not allowed to continue her studies in Austria after the 'Anschluss'. At the end of May 1938, she received the certificate for the First (general) examination.
At this time, however, Sznycer had already left Austria: On March 21, she vacated the apartment at Fuchsthallergasse 8/4 (9th district of Vienna), which she had shared with Szprynca Fajga Pinczeska. On the same day as Pinczeska, Sznycer returned to Łódź. Here, her trail goes cold.
