Rachmil Garfinkel was the son of Mowsza-Lejb Garfinkel (merchant). He was enrolled at the University for World Trade for four semesters between the winter semester 1936/38 and the summer semester 1938. The last examination he participated in dates from February 16, 1938. It is unlikely that the Jewish student attended any classes in the summer semester 1938. On July 20, 1938, he gave up his apartment at Liechtensteinstraße 117/8/3 (9th district of Vienna) and returned to Poland. After that, his trail goes cold.
