Salomon Mendelson was the son of the banker Iszya Mendelson.

He was enrolled at the University for World Trade for three semesters between the winter semester 1936/37 and the winter semester 1937/38. Salomon took his final exams in February 1938. After the 'Anschluss' of Austria, the Jewish student was prevented from continuing his studies. He evidently did not receive a leaving certificate.

During his studies, he lived at Pasteurgasse 2/11 (9th District of Vienna). Just a few days after the Wehrmacht's invasion, he left Austria: on March 25, 1938, he fled to Italy.

At the latest in the post-war period, France became his main place of residence. On November 18, 1949, he received French citizenship, and on May 3, 1999, he passed away in the town of Clamart located southwest of Paris (Département Hauts-de-Seine).
