Samson Großbart was the son of the Krakow construction entrepreneur Hirsch Großbart (born May 1, 1890, in Galician Radłów) and Regina (also: Riwka, born September 15, 1893, in Russian Chișinău, maiden name Heller). The parents married each other on July 2, 1914, in the Galician town of Kolomea/Kolomyja. They lived at Józefa Dietla Street 7/16 in Krakow.
After attending a high school in Krakow, Samson was enrolled at the University for World Trade from the winter semester 1936/37 to the winter semester 1937/38 for three semesters. On February 14, 1938, he took the First (general) examination but would have needed to retake the exam in the subject of transport studies. However, after the 'Anschluss' of Austria, this was denied to the Jewish student. On April 11, 1938, Großbart was withdrawn from the University and he received a leaving certificate. His written works were destroyed that same year. Initially, he lived during his studies at Nußgasse 1/21 (9th district of Vienna), and in February and March 1938, he was registered at Liechtensteinstraße 127/3 (9th district). On March 26, 1938, he left Vienna for an unknown destination. His further life path is unknown.
It cannot be confirmed with certainty whether his parents became victims of the Shoah. The mother is said to have been murdered at the Auschwitz/Oświęcim concentration camp on August 6, 1944.
