Waldemar was the son of Markus (commercial agent) and Cornelia Benedict. The family lived at Blechturmgasse 18 (4th district of Vienna).
He was enrolled at the University for World Trade for one semester in the winter semester of 1932/33, but this semester was not recognized "due to lack of testing"; in September 1933, he was deregistered without having attended any further courses or taken any exams. After the 'Anschluss' of Austria, he continued his studies. Despite his Protestant faith, due to his descent from Jewish ancestors, he was considered a 'Mischling' according to the racist ideas of National Socialism, and admission to study and the diploma examination required approval from the Reich Ministry of Science, Education and Culture (Berlin). This was granted to him on November 27, 1942, but with the restriction that "further admission after passing the diploma examination [...] is not considered." A doctoral study was therefore denied to Benedict. After studying alongside his profession at the University for World Trade in the winter semester of 1941/42 and summer semester of 1942, he took the diploma examination in the winter semester of 1942. Upon admission to the diploma examination, the winter semester of 1932/33 and one semester that he had completed in the meantime at the Technical University of Vienna were also credited to him. In December 1942, he received his diploma, and in January 1943, he was officially deregistered.
In 2002, Benedict passed away at the age of 87. He was buried on August 8 of that year at the Hietzing Cemetery.
