Hersz Lajb Sarna was the son of Abram Sarna (employee). After he graduated with a high school diploma in June 1935 in Łódź, he was enrolled for four semesters at the University for World Trade between the winter semester 1936/37 and the summer semester 1938. However, he took his final exam before the 'Anschluss' of Austria: in February 1938, he passed the First (general) exam. Further studies were denied to him due to his Jewish descent. Just a few days after the Wehrmacht's invasion of Austria, he gave up his apartment at Sechsschimmelgasse 7/9 (9th district of Vienna); on March 23, 1938, he returned to Łódź. His further fate is unknown.
