Josef Hauser was the son of the Meran merchant Fritz Hauser.
Following his attendance at the Realgymnasium Wien XIX (Straßergasse 38), he was enrolled at the University for World Trade for six semesters between the summer semester of 1935 and the winter semester of 1937/38. He did not appear for the last part of the diploma examination, which took place four days after the Wehrmacht's invasion of Austria. As early as March 17, 1938, Hauser gave up his apartment at Operngasse 4/1/3/16 (1st district) and left Vienna. From the 'University for World Trade' he received a certificate of departure. He was deregistered from the university on August 25, 1938.
Hauser emigrated to the USA, where he changed his first name to Joseph Henry. In the United States of America, he joined the armed forces on January 13, 1941, serving until his discharge on December 15, 1945. His main residence was in New York.
On February 5, 2009, Joseph Henry Hauser passed away in Miami (Florida) at the age of 94.
