Following a semester at the Faculty of Law of the University of Warsaw, Juda Harnik was enrolled at the University for World Trade for three semesters between the winter semester 1936/37 and the winter semester 1937/38. He was one of the few Jewish students who were still allowed to take exams after the 'Anschluss Österreichs' to Nazi Germany in the summer semester of 1938. However, during a time when anti-Semitism was elevated to state doctrine, he was unable to successfully complete the First (general) examination due to the enormous pressure on Jewish students.
Just a few days after the examination dates, Harnik deregistered from the apartment at Thalheimergasse 32-38/1/11 (16th district of Vienna), where he had lived since mid-October 1936. At the end of June 1938, he went to the then Polish city of Czortków/Tschortkiw (now located in Ukraine). There, his trail goes cold.
